Re: [Salon] Salon Digest, Vol 6, Issue 28

This argument disgusts me, bc, like Todd noted, its nearly the same as the trope that kept us pointlessly in Vietnam for a decade and in AFG for two decades.  Vietnam did fall and no other dominoes fell. AFG has fallen and there hasn't been a flood of would-be terrorists flocking to Kandahar to plot a slew of new 9.11s...

This dude is ignorant to what the cost would be to follow his recommendations to their conclusion. Those costs would be real, significant, and blood-soaked - and in a worst-case, spiral out of control into a nuclear exchange.

To the contrary, we would be greatly served by simply agreeing not to let Ukraine into NATO - something we should avoid like the plague, irrespective of what Putin wants. We then just defend our NATO borders like we have for 70+ years and no one else has to die. No Ukrainians have to die bc we can't bring ourselves to make even the slightest compromises (esp compromises on outcomes we don't want anyway!)...

It disgusts me.
